Biography

With a Doctorate in Law from Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), Brigitte Lefebvre is a Full Professor teaching private law at Université de Montréal. More specifically, over the years, she has taught family law, succession law, patrimonial family law (matrimonial regimes), property law and commercial law. She began her professorial career at the Judicial Sciences Department of Université du Québec à Montréal in 1989 and then joined our Faculty in 2003. Between 2003-2008, she was director of the notary law program and from 2008 to 2012, was the Faculty Secretary. Brigitte Lefebvre has also been a guest lecturer in the Master 2 notary law program of both Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) and Université Jean Moulin (Lyon III), in the Master 2 business law program of Université Lumière (Lyon 2), in the Master 2 notary law program and the private law Master program of Université Montesquieu - Bordeaux IV, and in a number of Quebec (Université de Sherbrooke) and Canadian (University of Ottawa) institutions. Her main research interests are: common law relationships, patrimonial family law, good faith and contractual equity. She has published many articles on these subjects and delivered a number of conferences in university and professional institutions in Quebec and around the world. Most notably, she has published a work on the role of good faith in contracts (subject of her doctoral thesis) and a monograph on matrimonial regimes.
