Research expertise

Les thématiques de recherche de Liliana Perez s’inscrivent à l’intersection de la géomatique, de la science des systèmes complexes, de la modélisation spatiale et de l’intelligence artificielle géospatiale (GeoAI). Ses travaux portent principalement sur la compréhension et la simulation des dynamiques socio-écologiques et environnementales dans un contexte de changements climatiques, de pressions anthropiques et de prise de décision territoriale.

Ses recherches visent le développement et l’application de modèles spatiaux avancés — notamment les modèles multi-agents, les automates cellulaires et les approches d’apprentissage automatique — afin de caractériser les processus émergents reliant environnement, sociétés humaines et systèmes écologiques. Elle s’intéresse particulièrement à la modélisation des perturbations environnementales (incendies de forêt, infestations d’insectes, inondations), à la dynamique des paysages, ainsi qu’aux interactions entre facteurs environnementaux et systèmes biologiques.

Plusieurs projets en cours explorent la dimension spatiale de l’adaptation aux changements climatiques, incluant l’impact des variables environnementales sur la santé des pollinisateurs, la productivité agricole, la biodiversité, la dynamique des zones humides urbaines et périurbaines, ainsi que la résilience des systèmes socio-écologiques. D’autres travaux portent sur la modélisation des mobilités humaines, des comportements collectifs et des processus décisionnels dans des contextes urbains et de gestion des risques.

Sur le plan méthodologique, ses contributions incluent l’intégration de la science des données spatiales, de l’apprentissage supervisé et non supervisé, et de la modélisation par simulation, afin de soutenir le développement d’outils d’aide à la décision et de plateformes de visualisation spatiale destinées aux décideurs publics, aux gestionnaires territoriaux et aux acteurs de terrain.

Biography

Ma formation initiale est en cadastre et géodésie (B.Ing. de l'Université Distrital, UD, Colombie). Après l'obtention de ma maîtrise en géographie (UPTC, Colombie) en 2003, j'ai travaillé pour l’Institut de Recherche Marine et Côtière «José Benito Vives de Andreis» (INVEMAR) et aussi pour le Centre international d'agriculture tropicale (CIAT). Trois ans plus tard, en 2006, j'ai quitté la Colombie pour m’installer au Canada et commencer un doctorat en géographie avec spécialisation en modélisation de systèmes complexes à l’université Simon Fraser (SFU), sous la direction du Dr Suzana Dragicevic (SAMLab). Dans cette thèse j'ai abordé le sujet de la modélisation spatiale et temporelle des épidémies des insectes et leurs comportements complexes. À la suite de l'obtention de mon doctorat en 2011, j'ai entrepris mes études de post doctorat à l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique (2011) et aussi à l’Université de Victoria (2011-2013) où j'ai travaillé sur des questions liées à la relation spatiale et temporelle  entre les changements d’indicateurs indirects de la biodiversité et du changement climatique.
