Infirmière spécialisée et chercheure engagée, elle a apporté une contribution majeure à l’avancement et à l’intégration des connaissances théoriques dans la prestation quotidienne des soins aux personnes souffrant de troubles mentaux. Nicole Ricard a toujours su rendre accessibles ses connaissances et son expertise; nombre de ses publications sont des outils de référence dans le milieu universitaire et celui de l’intervention.

Membre émérite et présidente de l’Association québécoise des infirmières et infirmiers en santé mentale, elle a été nommée, par le ministre de la Santé et des Services sociaux, pour siéger au comité de santé mentale du Québec pour la période de 1995 à 1999. Elle a également participé à la rédaction d’un Guide en santé mentale à l’Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec.
