Érudit is an inter-university consortium that provides research and cultural communities with a wide range of services in digital publishing and dissemination. The Érudit platform—erudit.org—is the leading digital dissemination platform of SSH research in Canada.
The erudit.org platform is the primary site for the dissemination of scholarly journals covering the social sciences and the humanities (SSH) in Canada. Founded in 1998 to support the publications of the Presses de l’Université de Montréal as they moved to a digital format, Érudit has now grown into a consortium composed of several universities, namely the Université de Montréal, the Université Laval and the Université du Québec à Montréal. A key actor in the world of scientific publishing, Érudit offers a wide array of services that support the discoverability of research results from Quebec, Canada and abroad. Open access and open science are at the heart of the Érudit Consortium’s mission. Its collections, both scholarly and cultural, are consulted by both researchers and the wider public, and the platform attracts more than five million users every year from all around the world.
With the help of its vast network of partners, Érudit also works to increase research capacity in SSH, in accordance with the orientations of Coalition Publica. Érudit provides access to vast corpora of primary research sources which can be explored through innovative analysis methods. These corpora bring together on one hand the bibliometric data attached to every article disseminated on erudit.org, which allows researchers to study the scholarly publishing system itself, and on the other, a massive repository of textual data built from the digitalization of heritage and scholarly content (newspapers, journals and magazines from the 19th and 20th centuries).
Érudit and the Public Knowledge Project have established Coalition Publica, a partnership that aims to create a national, open and non-commercial infrastructure for the digital publication and dissemination of research.
The Érudit Consortium receives support from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture and from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Since 2014, Érudit has also been recognized as a Major Science Initiative by the Canada Foundation for Innovation.
