Expertise de recherche

Danielle Labbé est spécialiste des questions d’urbanisation et des pratiques de l’urbanisme dans les pays en développement. Elle s’intéresse en particulier aux transformations des territoires périurbains, aux relations État-société dans la fabrique de la ville, à l’informalité urbaine, ainsi qu’à l’appropriation de l’habitat et des espaces publics urbains.

Biographie

Danielle Labbé a reçu une formation professionnelle en architecture et en design urbain avant de compléter un doctorat en urbanisme à UBC (2011). Depuis 2016, elle est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en urbanisation durable dans le Sud Global. Ses recherches interrogent les interrelations entre production et appropriation de l'espace urbain dans les villes du Sud Global. Ses travaux combinent des approches historiques, d'analyse des processus, et une perspective agentique pour explorer les rencontres entre intentions étatiques, pratiques de gouvernement et expériences quotidiennes des populations durant le processus d'urbanisation. Centrés sur la région sud-est asiatique, les travaux de Danielle touchent à des questions de fond sur les relations État-société, la gouvernance urbaine et l'informalité. Ses travaux participent ainsi à des débats théoriques qui animent non seulement la recherche en urbanisme, mais aussi en géographie humaine et en anthropologie urbaine.

Prix et distinctions

Danielle Labbé a reçu le Prix d’excellence en enseignement 2017 pour l’encadrement aux cycles supérieurs. La spécialiste en urbanisme du Sud Global figure parmi les récipiendaires de la Cuvée 2017 des Étoiles de l’enseignement de l’Université de Montréal pour sa supervision exemplaire auprès de ses étudiants, harmonisant pratiques innovantes, communication claire et rétroaction régulière. Son approche proactive et l’excellence de son encadrement lui valent donc cette reconnaissance de l’institution universitaire où elle œuvre depuis 2012.
