Ses champs d’intérêt en recherche incluent les maladies virales dont l’herpès oculaire, l’immunologie de la transplantation et les résultats fonctionnels après une greffe de la cornée, et l’évaluation d’interventions de médecine intégrative sur la qualité de vie. Financée sans interruption de 1986 à 2013, elle publie 80 articles scientifiques originaux avec comité de pairs. Elle a formé 120 résidents et 50 étudiants aux cycles supérieurs dont plusieurs fellows. Elle est membre de plusieurs conseils d’administration et organisations pour l’avancement des sciences et de l’éducation médicale. À ce titre, est membre depuis 2012 de la prestigieuse M8 Alliance, un réseau international d’universités dédié à l’amélioration de la santé mondiale. En 2018, elle devient membre de l’Ordre du Canada. En 2019 elle reçoit le Lifetime Achievement Award de la Société canadienne d’ophtalmologie. En 2020, elle devient membre de l’Académie canadienne des sciences de la santé.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal (2011-2020), Dr. Hélène Boisjoly is the first woman to hold this position at Université de Montréal and in the province of Quebec, Canada. She obtained her MD, and her FRCS(C) in Ophthalmology following training at Université de Sherbrooke. She specialized in research, surgery and treatment of diseases of the cornea and the external eye structures at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Schepens Eye Research Institute, both affiliated to Harvard University. She holds a Master in Public Health degree from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. In Canada, she was a FRSQ Scientist (1986-2001), and held a number of key positions in Ophthalmology, first at Université Laval and the Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval (1983-1993), and since then at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital affiliated to the Université de Montréal, where she became the first woman to be Chair of a University Department of Ophthalmology in Canada. She founded and directed the FRSQ Provincial Vision Research Network (1996-2000). Dr. Boisjoly is an accomplished corneal surgeon and ophthalmologist who has influenced a generation of students in Ophthalmology, Cornea and Eye research. In 2018, Dr. Boisjoly became a member of the Order of Canada. In 2019, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. In 2020, Dr Boisjoly became a member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
