About us
For the last few years, the GRITI has been working in the field of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS). It constitutes in Canada one of the biggest concentration of researchers and students working in that field. Its particularity is to be multidisciplinary because it includes researchers in database, artificial intelligence, multimedia, cognitive psychology, and education.

Expertise description
Most of the researchers from five universities (Université de Montréal, McGill University, UQAM, Bishop’s, UQAC) worked together during the last five years. They have organised three international conferences in Montreal in 1988, 1992 et 1996 (with an attendance of 400 persons for ITS-88, 350 persons for ITS-92 and 96) making their work and existence known to the international community. This resulted in several international contacts with the best world leading research teams in ITS : Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC, Pittsburgh), Institute for Research on Learning (Xerox Parc, Palo-Alto), MIT, various Europeen centres, etc... Team grants (NSERC and FCAR) were obtained during that period. Finally, a Synergy grant (4.8M$) was also obtained from 1994 to 1998.
The GRITI is pursuing and extending its activities since, recently, two other universities have joined them: the University of Sherbrooke and Laval University, with the agreement of the high management from the respective universities. Thereby, the GRITI now groups 7 universities in Quebec and approximately 60 students and researchers.
