Luna Vives est spécialiste en migration internationale. Ses travaux portent sur la manière dont les gouvernements d'Europe et d'Amérique du Nord utilisent les frontières pour prévenir les migrations spontanées et sur l'impact de ces transformations sur les groupes ayant droit à des protections spécifiques. Ses publications récentes portent sur l'impact des changements apportés aux systèmes de recherche et de sauvetage maritimes en Europe et en Espagne sur les enfants migrants non accompagnés (Justice Spatiale / Spatial Justice) et sur la protection de la vie humaine en mer (Geopolitics, Journal of Borderland Studies). Son livre sur le système espagnol de recherche et de sauvetage (SAR) dans des contextes de migration sera publié à l'automne 2025.
