Research Strategies and Policies

Université de Montréal has developed regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures, as well as a strategy to support equity and diversity in research and fulfill its teaching and research mission in an environment that fosters these values. In 2023, UdeM also published its institutional strategy for research data management.

Below are resource pages on the institutional strategy for research data management, research policies, and equity and diversity in research:

Equity and Diversity in Research

The university is the main institution where knowledge is generated and constantly enriched. This knowledge has a major impact on society. It is therefore essential for UdeM to diversify excellence and promote equity and inclusion in research.

Strategy for Managing Research Data

According to the three federal agencies, research data are data that are used as primary sources in support of technical or scientific inquiry, research, scholarship or creative practice and that are used as evidence in a research process or that are commonly accepted within the research community as necessary to validate research findings and results.

Why a strategy?

In March 2021, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) adopted the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. This policy aims to promote excellence in Canadian research by facilitating the management of digital data and the adoption of best practices in this area. To this end, the adoption of the FAIR Principles is proposed to enable discoverable, accessible, interoperable and reusable research data.

In February 2023, UdeM published an Institutional Strategy for Research Data Management (RDM). The strategy, which will be revised periodically over the next few years, lays the foundations for robust and effective research data management at UdeM by focusing on the needs and priorities of the research community.

A working table on research data management

In 2020, the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation (VRRI) established a Table de travail en soutien à la gestion des données de recherche (TTGDR) with a mandate to recommend the various components of the institutional RDM strategy to support researchers and research teams.
