Biography

A Professor at UQÀM (1988-2009) and Université de Montréal since 2009, as well as a researcher and a lawyer, Pierre-Claude Lafond was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1979. Over the years, he has made exceptional contributions to the community through his scientific works, expertise, pedagogy, social involvement and commitment to promoting access to justice for all.

His considerable influence is seen in three areas: access to justice, including appropriate approaches to conflict resolution and class actions, consumer law and assets law. He has published articles on appropriate approaches to conflict resolution and class actions, favouring an integrative and participative approach to justice. In particular, his writings on class actions propose a procedural plan for mechanisms that enable compensation, especially in situations where there is an imbalance between the parties. Pierre-Claude Lafond has also conducted research in consumer law, more specifically, taking into consideration the vulnerability of some parties in the elaboration of legal standards.
